Rome and Petritoli

I had meant to post an overview post before leaving home, but travel lately has been hectic. As I type this, we’ve already been in Rome for a day.  We’ve come over for Vanessa & Kevin’s wedding, which will take place a few hours NE of here this weekend.

The overall trip plan is as follows:

Monday (10/3) AM, hours after leaving ACL Weekend 1: fly AUS – JFK – FCO.  We landed at FCO about 7 AM, and came straight to our hotel, the Martis Palace.

We’ve already hit some of the standards, like:

Pantheon
The front of the Pantheon
Spanish Steps

The hotel’s location has been great thus far, allowing us to walk to everywhere we went today.  We finally made it up to the rooftop terrace around sunset for some wine:

As expected, Kelly has been on the hunt for gelato.  We’ve had two already, with this being her first:

Thursday (10/6), check out of the hotel and pick up a rental car at the other Rome airport, CIA, at noon.  We’ll drive to Petritoli, shooting to arrive around 6.  Google says the drive is about 3 hours, but we expect to take a leisurely route and stop somewhere random for lunch.  We’ll be there all weekend for the wedding (more detail at the above link), and then..

Sunday (10/9), head back to Rome, taking our time on the way back as well.  We’ll be in Rome in another hotel, the Hotel Majestic Roma, until flying home on 10/12.
